BEIJING, Sept. 29 (Xinhua) -- A freight train carrying some 300,000 U.S. dollars worth of chemical goods departed from Yichang east station in central China's Hubei province on Thursday, and it will arrive at Pasir Gudang port in Malaysia by sea via Qinzhou port in south China's Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region.
The new rail line is the first southbound channel that starts from central China, marking official opening of the southbound channel for Yichang free trade zone (FTZ).
The exported goods from Yichang to Southeast Asian countries are now transported by rail-sea route, saving travel time by 10 to 15 days compared with previous river-sea route, helping build Yichang into an import and export distribution center of central China to Southeast Asia, South Asia, and Africa.
