BEIJING, Sep. 6 (Xinhua)-- The original opera Marco Polo has been staged at the Beijing Tianqiao Performing Arts Center recently, highlighting the significance of the Silk Road and building a community of common destiny.
As the first opera that has been launched after the establishment of the Silk Road International League of Theaters, it is widely appreciated by audiences and experts.
In December 2016, an action plan for the cultural development (2016-2020) among Belt and Road (B&R) countries was released. It proposed to establish five professional cultural alliances, including Silk Road International League of Theaters, International Alliance of Museums of the Silk Road, Network of Silk Road Arts Festivals, Silk Road International Alliance of Art Museum and Galleries and Silk Road International Library Alliance.
Initiated by the China Arts and Entertainment Group, the Silk Road International League of Theaters serves as a multinational platform for performing arts, aiming to promote culture exchanges and improve artistic levels. As of May 2018, the league had a total of 89 member institutions, covering 34 countries and 2 international organizations.
China's Minister of Culture and tourism Luo Shugang said the establishment of the Silk Road International League of Theaters marked a creative achievement under the framework of the B&R Initiative and would help enhance cultural exchange between China and other countries.
The Network of Silk Road Arts Festivals was officially established during the 19th Shanghai International Arts Festival in Oct. 2017, with 129 arts festivals and organizations from 35 countries joining as members.
Silk Road International Alliance of Art Museum and Galleries, led by the the National Art Museum of China, was founded in Beijing in June 2018. The alliance boasts a total of 21 national galleries and art institutions from 19 countries along the B&R routes, including the Republic of Korea (ROK), Greece, Kazakhstan, Lithuania, Bulgaria, Vietnam, Russia and etc.
In addition, International Alliance of Museums of the Silk Road and Silk Road International Library Alliance were founded successively as well. The five alliances are expected to be a big step in boosting the people-to-people exchanges under the B&R Initiative and also a key step to push forward international cultural cooperation among countries along the routes.
