BEIJING, Aug. 30 (Xinhua) -- Northeast China's Liaoning Province is planning to build a Belt and Road comprehensive pilot zone, according to an official document released by the local authorities.
The B&R pilot zone is the first to be built at the provincial level in China, according to Huang Yang, deputy director of Liaoning Provincial Development and Reform Commission at a press conference on Monday.
The plan of the pilot zone reveals Liaoning's great ambitions. By taking advantage of the Belt and Road Initiative, the province will try to build an economic corridor in Northeast Asia to promote cooperation with Russia, Mongolia, Japan, the Republic of Korea (ROK) and the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK).
It will explore the establishment of a free trade port in Dalian and rely on integration of ports and the Dalian port which aims to become an international shipping center in the Northeast Asia to boost the port economy.
Liaoning also aims to modernize its financial system by introducing foreign financial institutions, and strengthen exchanges with foreign think tanks, according to the plan.
The planned B&R pilot zone will greatly help Liaoning to deepen reform, expand opening-up, promote high-quality development, and achieve comprehensive revitalization, Huang Yang remarked. (Edited by Li Wenxin, liwenxin@xinhua.org)
