CGGC contracts road improvement project in Sri Lanka -- The second engineering company of China Gezhouba Group Co., Ltd. (CGGC) recently won the bid for a road improvement project in Monaragala, Sri Lanka, marking a major step of the company in exploring Sri Lanka market. The road improvement project in Monaragala is the second comprehensive road project invested by the Road Development Authority of Sri Lanka. The contract includes repair, improvement and maintenance of 63.76 kilometers of roads in Monaragala area in Uva province. The contract duration is two years.
Chinese firm to build Lao national seismic data center project -- Shanxi Second Construction Group Co., Ltd., a subsidiary of China Shanxi Construction Engineering (Group) Corporation, won the bid for the aid project of Lao national seismic data center for 14.86 million yuan. The total construction area of the seismic data center is 1,018 square meters. The project consists of a computer room, a operation control center, management offices, a power distribution room and other buildings. Construction on the project is expected to last for 12 months.
Chinese firm wins bid for domestic waste incineration power plant project in Vietnam -- Heilongjiang Thermal Power 3 Company of Energy China recently won the bid for a domestic waste incineration power plant project in Phu Tho Vietnam, according to Energy China's website. The plant is designed to process 1,000 tons of municipal domestic waste daily or 365,000 tons per year. The first phase of the contract includes a waste incineration production line with processing capacity of 500 tons per day and a 9MW condensing steam turbine generator set. The company will undertake equipment procurement, transportation, construction and installation for the project. The project is located in Phu Ninh county, Phu Tho province, Vietnam.
Ethiopia inaugurates Chinese-built electricity transmission line -- Ethiopia inaugurated a 458-km 230-Kilo Volts (KV) electricity transmission line on July 6 that will transport electricity from Alamata in the north to Legetafo in central Ethiopia near the capital city Addis Ababa. The transmission line was built jointly by two Chinese firms, including Sichuan Electric Power Transmission and Transformation Construction Limited (SPTTC) and Jiangsu ETERN company Limited. Li Xiaodong, Project Manager of SPTTC, said the project will help Ethiopian consumers receive reliable power supply. "The transmission line financed by the World Bank started in November 2017 and was completed in eight months with safety, efficiency and quality", Li said. "This project built at a bid price of 20 million U.S. dollars will benefit local people," he further said.
Myanmar negotiating with Chinese consortium on deep-sea port project in western state -- Myanmar is negotiating with a Chinese consortium to carry out a strategic deep-sea port in Kyaukphyu, western Rakhine state, as part of the planned special economic zone (SEZ) in the region, according to a report of the official Global New Light of Myanmar July 8. The negotiation between Myanmar's Commerce Ministry and the China International Trust and Investment Corporation (CITIC) is expected to reach an agreement soon. Kyaukphyu deep-sea port project represents part of the economic corridor of China's Belt and Road Initiative and the two countries are approaching this in a way to ensure it become a win-win situation all round, said Myanmar Minister of Commerce Dr. Than Myint.
Egypt, China join hands to build up Egypt's new capital -- Some 50 km east of the capital Cairo, the construction of the Central Business District (CBD) undertaken by China State Construction Engineering Corporation (CSCEC) in Egypt's new administrative capital is carrying on under the scorching sun. The new capital is supposed to be one of the solutions to the chronic congestion of Cairo with a demographic burden of more than 20 million inhabitants. The project is intended to offer thousands of jobs and stimulate the sluggish economy, while Egypt's government institutions are scheduled to move to the new capital within the second half of 2019.

Sinomach helps Cote d'Ivoire develop and transform national grid -- The commencement ceremony of the national grid development and reconstruction project in Cote d'Ivoire, undertaken by China National Machinery Industry Corporation Ltd (Sinomach), was held on July 5. Amadou Gon Coulibaly, prime minister of Côte d'Ivoire, said that this project is one of the largest projects in the energy sector in Côte d'Ivoire. Upon completion, it will enhance the existing transmission capacity of Cote d'Ivoire and the stability of the national grid, and significantly expand the national electrification coverage.
Djibouti launches China-built free trade zone -- The 240-hectare trade zone will comprise of several major projects, including one main office building expected to be completed in November 2018. It will also house offices, a hotel and the warehouses of China Merchants Bonded and East Africa Holdings. The construction of the warehouses is already complete. The 370 million U.S. dollar project consists of three functional blocks located close to all of Djibouti's major ports. The pilot zone will have four industrial clusters, focusing on trade and logistics, export processing and business support. Already 21 companies have signed agreements to operate in the trade zone, which is expected to considerably enhance the trade in the Horn of Africa while strengthening Djibouti's position as a trade and logistics hub. Chinese company breaks ground on New Clark City expressway project in Philippines -- The New Clark City expressway project in the Philippines undertaken by China's CCCC Third Harbor Engineering Co., Ltd. recently started construction. A consortium formed by CCCC Third Harbor Engineering and local construction companies won the bid for the project, with a total contract value of about 115 million yuan and a construction period of 540 days. The project is located in New Clark City, central Luzon Island of the Philippines. The expressway is 12.05 kilometers long and the main construction contents include building the subgrade, 10 bridges and a toll station.
