BEIJING -- CRRC Changchun Railway Vehicles recently won a bid for a 38-km magnetic-levitation rail line in the city of Qingyuan in South China's Guangdong province, agreeing to provide the line with its new maglev trains.
Construction of the new Qingyuan maglev tour line began in December 2017. The main line stretches 8.1 km and will link Chimelong Tourist Resort with Guangqing Industrial Park. And two extension lines on the east and west will take passengers to more tourist destinations such as the South China Tiger breeding base and Meilin Lake.
The first train will be delivered in June 2019, the company said. The low to middle-speed train is the first of the company's new generation of maglev trains, which can run at a speed of up to 120 km per hour, according to the CRRC Changchun Railway Vehicles.
The new generation train also has better shock and sound proofing capabilities and is smarter and more passenger and environmentally friendly than previous versions.
With a lower cost and shorter construction period, the maglev system is appropriate for city commutes, as well as travel to nearby destinations.
As a strategic industrialization project in China’s low to middle-speed maglev train industry, the Qingyuan tour line will be of great significance in the rail transport sector in China, according to an expert at an industrial summit recently held in Qingyuan.
