China Railway Group wins bid for new section of Mile-Mengzi railway project -- China Railway Group Limited announced recently that its subsidiary China Railway No.8 Engineering Group Co. had won a bid for section MMZQ-1 of before-station construction project of sections under initial construction of the new Mile-Mengzi railway (adjustment). The contract value of the project is about 855 million yuan. The Mile-Mengzi Railway starts from Mile station, which sits on the Nanning-Kunming Railway. It runs south through stations at the cities of Mile and Kaiyuan before terminating at Mengzi. The Mile-Mengzi Railway is an important part of the southwest China’s outbound channel to Vietnam and other ASEAN states.
Chinese, Egyptian companies sign cooperation agreement on Tahrir petrochemical project -- China National Chemical Engineering Co., Ltd. (CNCEC) and Egypt’s Carbon Holding signed a cooperation framework agreement in Cairo, Egypt on June 30. According to the agreement, the two parties will work together to promote the Tahrir petrochemical project. The Tahrir petrochemical project is initiated by Carbon Holding and it is the largest petrochemical project in Africa to date, with a total investment of approximately 10.9 billion U.S. dollars. Located in the industrial zone and special economic development zone in the northwestern gulf of Suez, Egypt, it includes a series of petrochemical plants
CRCC wins bid for copper mine project in Ecuador -- China Railway Construction Co (CRCC) recently announced that its subsidiary China Railway 19th Bureau Group Co. had won the bid for the open pit mining and stripping engineering of the Mirado copper mine in Ecuador. The bidding price of the project is about 920 million U.S. dollars (approximately 6.068 billion yuan), representing 0.89 percent of the operating revenue of the CRCC in 2017. According to the report, Mirado copper mine is the CRCC’s first overseas mining investment project.
China’s Dongfang Electric signs hydropower project in Papua New Guinea -- China’s Dongfang Electric Co. (DEC) recently signed a contract for the Lake Hargy hydropower project in Papua New Guinea at the headquarters of PNG Power Ltd, according to the report of Securities Times. Located on the west side of the New Britain Island in Papua New Guinea, the Lake Hargy hydropower project will further secure the island’s electricity supply upon the completion of the power station. The project is jointly funded by the Asian Development Bank and the New Zealand government.
Another Chinese firm joins in competition for Thailand's high-speed rail project -- China Railway Group Limited is the latest firm which has entered competition for Thailand's high-speed rail project. China Railway Group Limited is the 15th firm which has bought a bidding document for the State Railways of Thailand's project to build the 220-kilometer-long high-speed rail project designed to link three major airports, namely Don Mueang airport on the northern suburbs of Bangkok, Suvarnabhumi airport on the eastern outskirts of Bangkok and U-tapao airport in Rayong province, according to the SRT official.The State Railway of Thailand's document on terms and conditions of the bidding is available for sales until July 9.
Coal-fired power station expansion project undertaken by Chinese firm starts in Zimbabwe -- The expansion project of Zimbabwe’s Hwange coal-fired power station undertaken by Power Construction Corporation of China was officially started on June 27. It is the largest thermal power project in Zimbabwe contracted by a Chinese company. The Hwange project is located in the coal-producing area about 800 km west of Harare, the capital city of Zimbabwe. It currently has 6 units installed with a total capacity of 920,000 kilowatts. After the project is completed, the total installed capacity will be expanded to 1.52 million kilowatts.
Construction of Jakarta-Bandung high-speed railway in full swing in Indonesia -- The Jakarta-Bandung high-speed railway (HSR) project jointly carried out by a China-Indonesia firm consortium has made significant progress and entered into a new stage of comprehensive implementation. China Railway said in a statement on June 29 that the project licensing, financing and land acquisition have been put in place gradually, and the construction of 22 controlling works has made breakthrough. The 142.3 km-long project will connect Indonesia's capital Jakarta and West Java's capital Bandung in the southeast. With a speed of 350 km per hour, the Chinese-technology high-speed train was capable of serving a single trip between the two cities in about 40 minutes from more than three hours previously.
China to help upgrade Uganda's polytechnic critical to road, railway construction -- China and Uganda signed an agreement in which the Asian country will finance the upgrade of a polytechnic in the eastern part of the country that is critical to road and railway construction. Matia Kasaija, minister of finance, planning and economic development who signed on behalf of the Ugandan government said the 155,000 U.S. dollar project will construct buildings which include classes, workshops and laboratories at Lubongi in Tororo district. He said the project is critical in building domestic capacity to build roads and railways in the east Africa country. He said once the capacity is built, Uganda will not have to entirely depend on foreign companies to carry out infrastructure development.
Kenya's Konza substation undertaken by Chinese firm starts construction preparation -- Construction on the Konza substation in Kenya undertaken by China Aerospace Construction Group Co., Ltd. has entered the preparation stage. The substation is designed to have the highest voltage grade and the largest single transformer capacity in Kenya. Located in Kenya's largest science and technology park Konza, the project is important facility for power supply to the Konza park. The 400KV substation project will be financed by commercial loans provided by the Export-Import Bank of China.
