Market researchers expect to see no sales growth in the smartphone market for the second year in a row. The market intelligence firm IDC predicts a 0.2 percent fall in sales to 1.462 billion devices in 2018. Once again the trigger was the relative slump in China, the world's largest smartphone market, IDC announced recently. According to the company's calculations, smartphone sales fell by 0.3 percent last year, following years of at times steep growth.
From 2019, however, IDC predicts that sales will increase again by around 3 percent a year. The market researchers see regions such as Africa, Latin America and the Middle East as the key drivers of this growth.
