China assisted road repair project for Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan breaks ground -- The road repair project for Kyrgyzstan capital Bishkek with Chinese funding and technology assistance held groundbreaking ceremony on May 25. The grants and technical assistance provided by the Chinese side are aimed at solving the socio-economic and infrastructure problems in Kyrgyzstan. The project would be undertaken by China Road and Bridge Corporation (CRBC), including restoration of 23 main streets in Bishkek, 38.08 kilometers in total length. The existing roads in the urban area of Bishkek are in disrepair and are seriously damaged. After the project is completed, it will provide more convenient traffic for local residents.
SHEC, CHEC’s dual-track railway project in Thailand completes subgrade construction -- The C1 section of the Chachoengsao-Kaeng Khoi dual-track railway project in Thailand undertaken by CCCC Second Harbor Engineering Company, or SHEC and China Harbor Engineering Company Ltd. (CHEC) completed subgrade construction on May 24. This is the first overseas railway project of SHEC and CHEC that covers both subgrade and rail line system. The project could reduce transportation cost between eastern seaboard area and northern, northeastern area in Thailand as well as improve railway operation safety when competed. The project construction period is February 19, 2016 to February 18, 2019.
China-Belarus industrial park sees infrastructure facilities of Phase I completed -- China-Belarus industrial park has seen the infrastructure facilities covering 3.5 square kilometers of its first phase already completed. China-Belarus industrial park, located in the eastern suburb of Minsk, capital city of Belarus, has been regarded as the important cooperation project between the two countries under the Belt and Road Initiative. By far, the industrial park is home to 34 resident enterprises, of which 18 are from China. The largest project inside the park to date is the China-Belarus trade and logistics subpark, which involves a total investment of 141 million U.S. dollars from China Merchants Group (CMG) and covers an area of 100,000 square meters.
CCECC receives advance payment for KMM road rehabilitation project in DR Congo -- The management office in Democratic Republic of Congo (DR Congo) of China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation (CCECC)’s Zambia branch received advance payment for the Kiubo-Mitwaba-Manono road rehabilitation project from the road owner unit, said a report from bhi.com.cn. The KMM road repair project was the first project won by CCECC after its entry into the DR Congo market. Receiving advance payment means that the company's project in the market has officially started.
CMEC to set up wind power plant in BiH -- China Machinery Engineering Corporation (CMEC) plans to set up wind power plant in Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH), reported the www.bhi.com.cn on May 25. CMEC intends to cooperate with BiH’s local enterprises TomixKnezevo and TLGTravnik to build the wind power plant in Central Bosnia Canton, with Galica and MountVlasic the most favored sites.
China's BYD to build 2nd monorail in Philippines -- China's electric vehicle maker BYD inked a deal on May 30 with the local government of Bataan province to build a monorail transit system in this northern Philippine city northwest of Manila. Liu Xueliang, the general manager of BYD Asia Pacific Auto Sales Division, told Xinhua that the monorail will be built in Balanga city as soon as a feasibility study is completed. Balanga city, about 120 km northwest of Manila, is the capital city of Bataan province in Luzon Island. According to BYD, the first phase of the monorail, circling Balanga city, is seven km.
Chinese company to construct underground pipes to prevent floods in Colombo -- Sri Lanka and China signed a contract on May 30 to construct new underwater sewage and pipelines in Colombo to prevent the threat of floods. Sri Lanka's Megapolis and Western Development Minister Champika Ranawaka told reporters that his ministry had signed a contract with the China Petroleum Pipeline Engineering (CPPE) company to construct the New Muttuwal and Torrington Tunnels. The 760-meter New Muttuwal Tunnel will lead through some of the most populated areas in Colombo, which are at a heavy risk of floods, and will successfully lead the rain waters into the sea. The 1.1-km Torrington Tunnel will also lead the rain waters into the ocean, preventing future flooding.
Shanghai Lingang Group join hands with Belgium’s port to build international trade base -- Shanghai Lingang Economic Development Group recently signed a strategic cooperation framework agreement with Port of Zeebrugge in Belgium to establish a service and distribution park, according to Shanghai State-owned Assets Supervision and Administration Commission. Under the name “One park, two centers (China/Europe)”, Lingang signed an agreement of 85.3 million euros to establish a 30-hectare logistic park, according to Port of Zeebrugge. The objective is to settle down Chinese, and international logistic players for transportation of components, reefer loads, e-commerce etc, between China and Western Europe.
BRICS New Development Bank approves 6 projects -- The BRICS New Development Bank (NDB) has approved six new projects from all five member countries with loans totaling 1.6 billion U.S. dollars, according to NDB President K.V. Kamath. The Chinese project is the Chongqing Small Cities Sustainable Development Project, with loans reaching 300 million dollars. The bank has approved 21 projects so far and the total amount of the bank's portfolio has exceeded 5.1 billion dollars. According to Kamath, the bank is planning another renminbi bond issuing of 5 billion yuan (781 million U.S. dollars) this year.
