BEIJING, May 31 (Xinhua) -- Chinese e-commerce giant JD.com plans the official launch of its JDY-800 drone during its upcoming “618” online shopping festival, according to Xiao Jun, vice president of JD.com, noting that JDY-800 is expected to go into service in 2020.
The on-line retailer first introduced JDY-800 during the JD CUBE conference on May 29, according to a report by Securities Daily.
JDY-800 has a wingspan of more than 10 meters with full-time autonomous flight capability, cruising altitude of 3,000 meters, cruising speed of more than 200 kilometers/hour, and continuous flight of more than 1,000 kilometers. It has a takeoff weight of 840 kilograms, and can carry 5 standard cubic air cases.
It is noted that JD.com has also self-developed more than a dozen of logistics unmanned aerial vehicles (UAV) in various types and also unmanned heavy trucks based on different logistics needs.
JD plans to set up a UAV R&D as well as application whole industry chain based on its R&D center in Beijing and Xi’an. (Edited by Niu Huizhe, niuhuizhe@xinhua.org)
