BEIJING, May 25 (Xinhua) -- Scale of the core artificial intelligence (AI) industries in China is expected to exceed 150 billion yuan by 2020, which is projected to drive related industries to be more than 1 trillion yuan by then, said Zhang Feng, chief engineer of Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) at the recent World Telecommunication & Information Society Day 2018.
Driven by policies and market, China’s AI industry is making substantial progress. China's AI is moving faster with the development of voice recognition, machine vision, and natural language processing, of which some are taking the lead in the world. In the meantime, scale of AI industry is expanding with a batch of unicorn companies showing up.
Statistics show that the annual investment in the global AI increased from 6.5 billion U.S. dollars in 2016 to 16 billion U.S. dollars in 2017. (Edited by Jiang Zhengxu, Hu Pingchao, hupingchao@xinhua.org)
