WuXi Biologics to invest SGD80mln to build biologics manufacturing base in Singapore -- Hong Kong-listed WuXi Biologics (Cayman) Inc., a leading global biologics services provider that offers comprehensive, integrated and highly customizable services, announced on May 22 that it planned to invest 80 million Singapore dollars (about 380 million yuan) to build a modern biologics manufacturing base in Singapore. This would be the company’s tenth biologics manufacturing base worldwide, the first Asian base outside China and the second overseas base following the one in Ireland.
SenseTime, Alibaba open AI lab in partnership with HK Science and Technology Parks -- Facial recognition startup SenseTime and e-commerce heavyweight Alibaba announced on May 21 they have set up an artificial intelligence laboratory in Hong Kong by partnering with Hong Kong Science and Technology Parks Corp. The AI laboratory is aimed to strengthen technology exchange between the Chinese mainland and Hong Kong by combining the former's accumulation of artificial intelligence core technologies and application scenarios, and the latter's advantage in AI academic research. SPH spends USD144mln, gets controlling stake in Techpool Bio-pharma -- Shanghai Pharmaceuticals Holding Co., Ltd. (SPH) announced on May 21 that it had inked deal with Takeda Pharma AG to buy 100 percent stake of latter’s wholly owned subsidiary Takeda Chromo Beteiligungs AG through its investment subsidiary in Hong Kong with 144 million U.S. dollars (915 million yuan). This means an indirect purchase of 26.34 percent stake of Guangdong Techpool Bio-pharma Co., Ltd in which SPH's stake would rise to 67.14 percent from previous 40.8 percent.
Hailide’s polyester filament project in Vietnam to start construction by end of 2018 -- Zhejiang Hailide New Material Co., Ltd. announced on May 21 on its social media account that its differential polyester industrial filament project (phase I) with an annual output of 110,000 tonnes in Vietnam is expected to kick off construction by the end of this year. Hailide announced earlier on May 17 that it planed to set up subsidiary in Vietnam to carry out the project with investment estimated at 155 million U.S. dollars.
ABB sets up new robotics center in Chongqing -- ABB Group of Switzerland said it plans to enhance its business presence in Chongqing and support the development of the robotics industry in China's western regions, by stepping up smart manufacturing and driving an industrial upgrade.
