Companies in best spirits (Jens Büttner/dpa-Zentralbild/archive)
Germany's mid-sized companies - which constitute the backbone of the country's manufacturing industry - are in their best spirits in years, according to a survey that was recently released.
Of 1,500 companies questioned, 92 per cent ranked their business situation as "good" or "very good," according to the study by DZ Bank and the Bundesverbandes der Deutschen Volksbanken und Raiffeisenbanken, a German banking association.
The last time that many members of Germany's so-called Mittelstand were in such a good mood was 1995. "Since domestic demand is so robust in the German home market, the Mittelstand, at first glimpse, doesn't seem to be reacting very negatively to slight cooling of the global economy," said DZ official Uwe Berghaus.
