BEIJING, May 22 (Xinhua) -- Hong Kong and Shanghai should cooperate with each other when it comes to outward investment, said Nicholas Kwan Ka-ming, director of research at the Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC).
The researcher made the remarks last Monday at the first Shanghai Forum on the Road and Belt Initiative, which was co-organized by the Shanghai Academy of Social Sciences, the China Center for Contemporary World Studies, and the HKTDC.
According to him, through cooperation, Hong Kong is able to increase imports and exports while Shanghai can achieve a more balanced geographical distribution of trade.
Under the Belt and Road Initiative, more and more Chinese companies are investing overseas. A range of investment issues such as intellectual property disputes often affect business operation. Nicholas Kwan said Hong Kong’s expertise in legal services can help mainland enterprises to solve the difficulties encountered in the investment process.
The HKTDC, a trade promotion agency, has made the Belt and Road opportunities as one of its priorities. (Contributed by Zhang Jun, Ding Lei, dinglei@xinhua.org, edited by Zhang Aifang, zhangaf@xinhua.org)
