KATHMANDU, May 14 (Xinhua) -- Nepali Prime Minister K.P. Sharma Oli and visiting Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi jointly laid the foundation stone for the development of the 900MW Arun III Hydropower Project in the country's eastern Sankhuwasbha district.
SJVN Limited, a joint venture company between the two countries, is developing one of the largest power projects in Nepal.
Two prime ministers laid the foundation stone remotely from Kathmandu by looking at the live video of the project site on Friday evening.
Modi is in Nepal for a state visit.
During the joint press meet, Modi said the project would create huge economic and commercial opportunities as well as employment opportunities for Nepali people.
The construction of the project is expected to complete by 2023.
