Railway from Lao capital to Vietnamese seaport to cost over 5 bln USD -- More than 5 billion U.S. dollars is needed to build a railway linking Lao capital Vientiane to a seaport in central Vietnam's Ha Tinh province, local daily Vientiane Times quoted study results as saying on May 8. The findings were part of a technical support project for a feasibility study of the railway. The Vientiane-Thakhaek-Vung Ang railway has a planned length of 554.72km, with 102.7km of the track to be in Vietnam. The Korea International Cooperation Agency, which funded the technical support project, estimated that Vietnam would need more than 1.5 billion U.S. dollars to build the section of railway passing through its territory.
Myanmar, Thailand to resume deep sea port project after years of suspension -- Myanmar and Thailand have agreed to resume work on a deep sea port project this year, part of the infrastructure project of Myanmar's Dawei Special Economic Zone (SEZ) in southern Tanintharyi region, after several years of suspension, local media reported on May 9. Under a fresh memorandum of understanding signed between the two countries, the Italian-Thai Development Public Company (ITD) is allowed to begin work again, according to a report by official media the Global New Light of Myanmar. The project, originally started in 2008, was set to build and develop a port and a highway to link the two countries' industrial zones, office and residential buildings and other infrastructures. According to an earlier official report, Myanmar and Thailand have finalized a loan of 133 million U.S. dollars in July 2017 to prompt the re-start of the long-halted special economic zone project.
NDRC nods RMB22.15 bln Xinjiang Hetian-Ruoqiang railway project -- The National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC) recently approved the construction of Hetian-Ruoqiang railway project in Northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region with a total investment estimated at 22.15 billion yuan. Constructed and operated by a joint ventured between China Railway and the development and reform commissions with Xinjiang Autonomous Region and Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps, the railway line starts from Hetian station, running through 71 stations in total and extends 825 kilometers in length to end at Ruoqiang station, according to the NDRC. The project's construction will last for 3.5 years with long-term transport capacity planned at eight pairs of passenger trains daily and 15 million tonnes of freight annually.
China EximBank gives further financing support to Indonesian Bandung expressway project -- The Export-Import Bank of China (China EximBank) has inked a loan agreement with the Indonesia Ministry of Finance to provide financing for phase III of the Bandung expressway project. China Eximbank earlier has given financial support to phase I and phase II of the Bandung expressway. The Bandung expressway project connects the Bandung and the Kertajati International Airport with a total length of 60 kilometers and is a priority project for Indonesian economy development. When completed, the project will effectively improve transportation network in Kertajati, ease traffic congestion, facilitate the cargo and passenger transportation, as well as promote local economic and social development.

The project locates in town Arifwala of Sahiwal District, Punjab, Pakistan, which is 280 kilometers away from Punjab's capital Lahore and 50 kilometers away from Sahiwal. Ukraine plans two major projects in Black Sea ports this year -- Ukraine plans to launch two major projects in Black Sea ports this year, the Ukrainian Sea Ports Authority (USPA) said on May 4, citing the country's Infrastructure Minister Volodymyr Omelyan. One of the projects envisages the construction of a container terminal in the port of Chornomorsk, while another project stipulates for the modernization of the port of Yuzhny, the USPA said in a statement. Ukraine, which set a target to become an important transit hub between Asia and Europe, last year has launched a major renewal of the country's port infrastructure, which envisages modernization of all 13 maritime ports. Chinese company to study Nepal-China cross-border railway: official -- A technical team of China Railway First Survey Design Institute Group is scheduled to arrive in Nepal to conduct a pre-feasibility study on the proposed cross-border railway between China and Nepal, a senior official of Nepal's Department of Railway said. During the visit of a Nepali delegation led by Madhusudan Adhhikari, secretary at Ministry of Physical Infrastructure and Transport, last week to China, it was agreed that the Chinese company would conduct the study, Prakash Bhakta Upadhayay. Upadhyay said the Chinese company will study on potential alignments of the proposed railway, social and environmental impact and geological aspect. "It will prepare and submit the study report by August," he said.
