BEIJING, April 27 (Xinhua) -- The first high-speed railway that connects northwest China's Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region with other parts of the country will be put into service by 2020.
The 618-km railway, which links Yinchuan, capital of Ningxia, and Xi'an, capital of northwest China's Shaanxi Province, is expected to inject new vitality into the less developed region.
With an investment of some 13 billion U.S. dollars, the railway is designed for bullet trains running at a speed of 250 kilometers per hour.
Once completed, the travel time between Yinchuan and Xi'an will be cut from 14 hours to 3 hours.
