NANNING, Apr. 19 (Xinhua) -- A series of spectacular sports and culture performances and ceremonies featured with traditions of ethnic minorities are kicked off in Laibin City of south China’s Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region on Wednesday, or March 3 in Chinese Lunar Calendar, which is a traditional festival of ethnic minority groups such as Zhuang, Dong and Yao ethnic minorities in Guangxi and other parts of south China.
According to the city government’s event organizer, these sports, culture performances, including sports competitions, performances, experience project for tourists, exhibitions of sports commodities and gourmet party, will be held during this week.

Such performances, held in downtown area of the city, have attracted guests from countries and regions like Vietnam, Malaysia, Indonesia, Brunei, Hong Kong and Taiwan, as well as tourists from in- and out-side Guangxi.
Lei Yingmin, mayor of the host city Laibin, at the opening ceremony of the events expressed his congratulations and welcomed guests from all over the world to Laibin, saying that the city, as a hometown to the world gymnastics champion Li Ning, has won many honors for its brilliant sports and culture tradition and will better showcase its vigor and charms in the these events to be held in the city during the holiday, and also gain momentum to develop into a better place in Guangxi.

“Zhuang People’s Lunar March 3, Guangxi’s Carnival” was initialized and organized by the People's Government of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region to celebrate local Zhuang people’s traditional Lunar March 3 festival, aiming to boost local cultural heritage and tourism during the festival.
The People’s Congress of Guangxi has passed a local regulation in 2014 to grand three-day official holiday to all Guangxi residents starting from lunar calendar March 3 every year in Guangxi.
Guangxi, a well-known tourism destination in south China, is also a major opening-up outlet to Southeast Asian countries via land ports, sea ports and airports. It is now specified as an important Belt and Road gateway to combine the 21st Century Maritime Silk Road and the Silk Road Economic Belt. Besides, the China-ASEAN Expo (CAEXPO) has been held in Guangxi since 2004.
