AMMAN, Mar. 5 (Xinhua) -- Jordan and Brazil on Sunday explored means to boost bilateral economic ties and developments in the Middle East, state-run Petra news agency reported.

During a meeting between Jordanian Prime Minister Hani Mulki and Brazilian Foreign Minister Aloysio Nunes in the capital Amman, the two sides discussed cooperation in areas of tourism, economy and commerce.

Mulki said there was huge potential for increased cooperation with Brazil and other South American countries.

Their discussions covered the possibility for Brazil to import potash and phosphate from Jordan and expanding tourist arrivals to Jordan as the country boasts a large number of attractions.

On the developments in the Middle East, the two sides looked into the Syrian crisis and the impact of the presence of Syrian refugees in Jordan and neighboring countries.

They also discussed the Palestinian issue which is central to the Middle East conflict.

The Brazilian official voiced appreciation for Jordan's support to the Syrian refugees, adding that Jordan's role in preserving regional stability and security is essential.

As for the current financial situation of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA), Nunes said it may have negative consequences for countries that host a large number of refugees.
