Xiamen Airlines, GE to strengthen strategic cooperation -- Xiamen Airlines signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with GE on February 1, to further strengthen strategic cooperation. The MOU will cover several areas including fleet management support and services, digital solutions, leadership training and aviation health management programs, as well as intra-industrial alignment and cooperation to support the globalization of Xiamen Airlines.

Toyota to recall 4 models of vehicles in China -- Toyota will recall 181,797 vehicles over an air bag defect in China. The recall was filed by GAC Toyota Motor and Tianjin FAW Toyota Motor to the General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine (AQSIQ).Starting Feb. 10, the company will recall 73,084 New Highlander vehicles manufactured between May 5, 2015 and Feb. 4, 2016, and 98,218 Levin models produced between May 4, 2015 and Feb. 4, 2016, as well as 5,804 Levin hybrid cars produced between Oct. 11, 2015 and Feb. 4, 2016, according to the AQSIQ.

Nissan's China venture aims to sell 1.17 mln cars in 2018 -- Nissan Motor Co.'s Chinese joint venture plans to sell at least 1.17 million vehicles in 2018, up 5.3 percent from a year earlier, the Japanese automaker's local partner Dongfeng Motor Corp. Said on Feb.3. Growth forecast for the partnership is cut in half as the world's largest auto market is likely to see growth slow to around 3 percent this year, according to the country's auto industry association, in what would be a second straight year of lackluster growth.

Apple's China data center to open in 2020 -- Construction on a Chinese data center for Apple Inc, the U.S. tech giant, is scheduled to begin later this year and the center is expected to open in 2020, sources close to the project has said. The timetable was provided by the communications administration of southwest China's Guizhou Province, where the center will be built. With an investment of 1 billion U.S. dollars, the data center, which will cover 1,000 mu (67 hectares) in Guian New Area, will offer iCloud services on the Chinese mainland.

Apple to build another data center in China -- Apple Inc., the United States tech giant, will build a data center in Ulanqab City in north China's Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, after its first data center in southwestern Guizhou Province, the local government has announced. As Apple's first data center in north China, it will be put into operation in 2020 and offer iCloud services on the Chinese mainland, according to the city government.

Cochlear to open first plant in China -- Australian company Cochlear Ltd., the world's leading cochlear implant producer, held a ceremony to lay the foundation stone for its first manufacturing plant in China on Feb.1. With production expected to commence within the next three-and-a-half years, the manufacturing facility in Chengdu, capital of southwest China's Sichuan Province, will raise Cochlear's global cochlear implant production by at least 50 percent, according to a company statement.

Huawei, Telefonica complete world's 1st assisted driving technology test -- Chinese telecom company Huawei and its Spanish counterpart Telefonica have confirmed the completion of the world's first test of technology to aid assisted driving. In a press communique released on February 6, Huawei said the successful test of a communications network for vehicles based on 5G network and known as 5G-V2X, is a major step forward in expanding the 5G ecosystem.

Munich Re launches insurance firm in Beijing -- Munich Re, one of the world's leading reinsurance companies, has recently launched Smart Thinking Consulting Co Ltd in Beijing, an insurance solution firm which aims to deliver technology-enabled insurance solutions to its customers. The newly formed venture, located in the Guomao area, deploys cutting-edge technology like artificial intelligence and face- and voice-recognition to offer a wide range of new service solutions to the market.

JD.com plans to take on Amazon in Europe -- One of China's leading online retailers, JD, will challenge Amazon in Europe with operations across the continent in the next few years, according to the company's boss. Liu Qiangdong, founder and chief executive of JD, said his company will launch its first European e-commerce platform and delivery services in France, with plans to roll out to the United Kingdom and Germany. JD.com will also open an artificial intelligence research center in Cambridge and offices in London. (Source: China Daily)

Chinese O2O home improvement firm SSLJ.com debuts on Nasdaq -- Chinese vertically integrated online-to-offline (O2O) home improvement service and product providers SSLJ.com Limited on February 5 rang the Nasdaq Stock Market opening bell in celebration of its Initial Public Offerings (IPO), notching the first Nasdaq IPO of a Chinese company this year. SSLJ.com, trading under the ticker symbol of "SSLJ," priced its initial public offering of 4 million Class A ordinary shares at a public offering price of 5.00 U.S. dollars per share for a total of 20 thousand dollars in gross proceeds before expenses.

Cirque du Soleil eyes potential market in China -- Canadian entertainment company Cirque du Soleil will establish a strong and long-term presence in China to share its creativity with as many people as possible in the country, the company's public relations manager Stephanie Morissette said. "For our shows, we are working with local Chinese promoters and partners to help us better understand the Chinese ways and culture, and to bring the Chinese population to get to know us better," Morissette told Xinhua.
