Chinese firm wins bid to construct wastewater treatment sub-project in NW Cambodia -- A Chinese construction company on Jan. 30 won a bid to construct a wastewater treatment sub-project in the town of Battambang province in northwest Cambodia. Cambodian Minister of Public Works and Transport Sun Chanthol said the ministry awarded the 9.36-million-U.S.-dollar contract to the Beijing Urban Construction Group (BUCG) after the firm won a public tender in November. "Under the contract, the company will construct a 15-km sewer pipe in Battambang town," he said after the signing ceremony here. "The firm will also restore and clean a total of 4,000 square meters of wastewater canals."

TEPC signs 300MW PV power plant EPC project in Chad -- Tianjin Electric Power Construction Co., Ltd. (TEPC), a subsidiary of China Energy Engineering Group, signed an EPC contract of a 300MW PV power plant project in Chad on Jan. 19. TEPC signed the contract with the project owner, Blue Bay Chad. The project, next to the Djermaya Refinery of China National Petroleum Corporation (CNPC) in Chad, is 40km north from Ndjamena, capital of the country. Its first phase is characterized by a planned capacity of 30MW.

China’s Huaxin Cement to build cement plant in Nepal -- China’s Huaxin Cement Co., Ltd. recently has been discussing a project investment agreement with Investment Board Nepal (IBN) to invest 140 million U.S. dollars to set up a cement plant in Nepal, according to sohu.com. The agreement will allow the company and the government of Nepal to carry out cooperation relating to the project. The agreement marks another major investment in Nepal by Chinese cement company following the 359.2 million U.S. dollar project signed in September 2017 between Hongshi Holding Group Co., Ltd. and the Nepali government.

China, Laos sign agreement on TV channel upgrade project -- An agreement on Lao national television channel upgrade project with Chinese sponsor has been signed in Lao capital Vientiane. The agreement was signed by the Economic Counselor of Chinese Embassy in Laos Wang Qihui and Bounchao Pichit, head of Lao National Television on Jan. 26. The project includes upgrade of studio, editing system, transmission and conversion system, provision of high-definition broadcasting vehicles and portable transmission equipment, among others. The project is expected to raise the production quality standard of Lao television programs and provide technical support for better exchange of radio, film and television between China and Laos.

Hinkley Point C project proceeding well: CGN -- China General Nuclear Power Corporation (CGN), a major Chinese nuclear power operator, said Jan. 1 that nuclear projects in Britain were proceeding well. He Yu, chairman of the board of CGN, said since the deals were inked in 2016 with French energy company EDF and the British government, CGN has invested 1.7 billion British pounds in order to advance the projects. "A total of 15 Chinese suppliers and contractors have passed a preliminary qualification assessment for the HPC project," He said. The construction site for HPC is the size of 245 football courts. It will use 23,000 tonnes of steel and 3 million tonnes of cement. A maximum of 5,600 people work every day at the site.

Chinese company completes first dredging project at Ukraine's Black Sea -- The Beijing-based China Harbor Engineering Company (CHEC) has completed the first dredging project at Ukraine's Black Sea port of Yuzhny and the handover ceremony was held on Jan. 30 in the Ukrainian Infrastructure Ministry in Kiev. Under the project, the Chinese company has deepened the 25th approach channel of the port to 16 meters, with a record-breaking time for Ukraine and three months ahead of the schedule. The CHEC has started the dredging works to deepen the 25th approach channel of the port in July 2017. The works initially were set to be completed in March 2018, but were finished on January 27, three months ahead of the schedule.

CCCC First Highway Engineering signs agreement on Manila Waterfront City Project -- China’s CCCC First Highway Engineering Co. Ltd. (First Highway Engineering) recently signed a framework agreement with the Philippines’ Waterfront Manila Premier Development Inc. (WMPD) on jointly building the Manila Waterfront City Project. According to bhi.com.cn, the project, located in the prime location of Manila, is initiated by the government of Manila. The project is divided into 2 phases, with each phase planned to be 30 months. As the constructor, First Highway Engineering and the developer WMPD will work together to reclaim 318 hectares of land from the sea, which will finally increase 7.4 percent of the land for the city.
