Guizhou firm to handle Apple iCloud services in Chinese mainland-- Apple Inc's iCloud services on the Chinese mainland will be operated by a local company from Feb 28, marking the latest push by the United States tech giant to meet local consumers' growing demand for better cloud services. Apple said on January 10 that Guizhou-Cloud Big Data Industry Co Ltd, an enterprise owned by the Guizhou provincial government, will operate its iCloud service on the Chinese mainland.

China's car giant promotes new electric vehicle in UAE -- China's ICONIQ Motors is promoting its latest electric vehicle (EV) model "SEVEN" in the ongoing Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week, the Tianjin-based firm said in an e-mailed statement on January 16. ICONIQ has signed a memorandum of understanding with Abu Dhabi Motors, one of the biggest retailers of premium passenger cars in the Middle East, to establish a distribution partnership in the Middle East.

Tencent, Lego partner to create digital entertainment experience for Chinese children -- Chinese Internet giant Tencent teamed up with global toy-maker Lego to develop a safe Internet eco-system covering games, short videos, smart toys and social networking to empower Chinese children online. The partnership announced on January 15 includes a Lego video zone for children on Tencent's video platform and a safe social network for children in China.

Huawei wins in Samsung patent dispute -- Huawei Technologies Co Ltd has won another patent victory in China over its South Korean competitor Samsung Electronics Co Ltd, amid increasingly fierce competition in the world's largest smartphone market. The Shenzhen Intermediate People's Court ruled on January 16 in favor of Chinese smartphone-maker Huawei, issuing a ban on Samsung infringing the firm's intellectual property rights by manufacturing and selling products that use its patented wireless communication technologies.

China seeks 5G mobile-tech lead -- The 5G ambitions of China's top telecom-equipment makers, Huawei and ZTE, are on display at CES 2018.ZTE rolled out its 5G Future Tunnel to show visitors how the technology will change people's lives. For Huawei, 5G innovations made it into a keynote speech that launched the Mate 10 Pro smartphone, which features the world's fastest "4.5G or pre-5G experience."

Uber's Chinese rival Didi Chuxing recruits in Mexico ahead of launch-- Chinese ride-hailing company Didi Chuxing has advertised online for a range of jobs in Mexico as it prepares to break into the country, one of rival Uber’s regional strongholds. Didi Chuxing plans this year to launch a smartphone app in Mexico and to recruit drivers to the platform, Reuters reported last month. The expansion underscores Didi’s growing interest in Mexico and, more broadly, Latin America, a market where Uber Technologies Inc doubled down after Didi drove it out of China.

Chinese automaker announces plans to sell vehicles in U.S. -- Guangzhou Automobile Group Motor Co., Ltd. (GAC) from China roared into the North American International Auto Show that is being held here and announced it plans to begin selling vehicles in the United States at the end of 2019.If the company achieves its self-imposed deadline, the automaker headquartered in Guangzhou, south China's Guangdong Province, will become the first Chinese company ever to sell the first Chinese-branded vehicles in the United States.
