Driverless monorail line launched in NW China -- A driverless monorail transit system, the first developed in China, was tested on January 10 in northwest China's Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region. The system "Yungui" was developed by China's leading new energy vehicle maker BYD and telecom giant Huawei.

Baidu, Access Services team up for self-driving project -- Internet search giant Baidu Inc said on January 9 that it is working with Access Services, a US-based public paratransit services provider to launch a self-driving pilot project in Los Angeles by the end of this year, as the tech behemoth accelerated its expansion in overseas markets. The project is set to provide short route self-driving vehicle services for persons with disabilities and senior citizen communities, said the company at the Consumer Electronics Show 2018 in Las Vegas. Huawei and Sodexo sign global partnership deal -- French business outsourcing service provider Sodexo signed a global partnership agreement on January 9 with world’s leading information and communications technology company Huawei Technologies Co Ltd, under which Sodexo will provide integrated facilities management services to Huawei. With this agreement, Sodexo will provide services such as office building operation and maintenance, security, backstage engineering operation and maintenance, cleaning, landscaping, and business supporting services such as conference service. DiDi takes parts of bike-sharing operator's business -- Chinese ride-hailing company DiDi Chuxing will take parts of financially strained bike-sharing operator Bluegogo's business in its latest attempt to enter the bike-sharing market, the company announced on January 9. The two companies reached a cooperation agreement that allows users to ride Bluegogo bikes through DiDi's mobile app with no deposit required.

Indonesia's state-run airlines to open more direct flights to China's cities from Bali -- In a bid to tap more tourists from China, Indonesia's state-run airlines Garuda Indonesia was scheduled to open more flights linking Bali to Zhengzhou and Xi'an later this month, the airline official said. The opening more flights to the China's two cities would add the airlines' existing services directly connecting Indonesia's resort island of Bali with several cities in China.

FAW Car buys stake in Mobike subsidiary -- FAW Car Co is entering the car-sharing segment by acquiring a 10 percent stake in bike-sharing giant Mobike's newly launched car-sharing unit Mobike Chuxing Technology Co. With the strategic investment, FAW Car will develop and provide electric cars for Mobike Chuxing, and the joint venture will share with the carmaker its experience in shared mobility operations as well as user statistics. East China's "world supermarket" sees trade growth -- The east Chinese city of Yiwu, known as the "world supermarket" for its wholesale goods, saw steady growth in trade last year, the city's customs said on January 6. Official data showed the city achieved a total trade volume of 211.3 billion yuan (32.6 billion U.S. dollars) from January to November, up 4.4 percent, with exports standing at 208.1 billion yuan, up 4.1 percent, and imports at 3.2 billion yuan, up 34.3 percent.

Manzhouli imports over 1,700 tonnes of LPG from Russia in 2017 -- Manzhouli, a major land port of entry on China's border with Russia, imported over 1,700 tonnes of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) from Russia in 2017, the Entry-Exit Inspection and Quarantine Bureau in north China's Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region said on January 8. Imports of LPG are expected to expand further in 2018 to meet the demand of inland users, local authorities said.

Lenovo remains best-known Chinese brand among foreigners: survey -- Lenovo is still the best-known Chinese brand among foreigners, followed by Huawei and the e-commerce conglomerate Alibaba, according to the 2016-2017 China National Image Global Survey published on January 5. The remaining two spots in the top five were Air China and the Bank of China, which replaced ZTE, a major telecommunications company, and Haier, the survey showed.
