Main span of China-made bridge closed in Brunei -- Chinese constructors wrapped up work to connect the main part of Brunei's first cross-sea bridge on Dec. 26. The 2,680-meter-long Pulau Muara Besar Bridge, which connects the mainland to the western shore of Pulau Muara Besar, is expected to open to traffic in April 2018, according to the Second Harbor Engineering Company (SHEC) of China Communication Construction Company. The bridge has four lanes and a designed speed for vehicles of 100 kilometers per hour, said SHEC based in central China's Wuhan City.

China, Pakistan, Afghanistan agree to discuss extending economic corridor -- Foreign ministers from China, Pakistan and Afghanistan on December 26 agreed to discuss ways to extend the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) to Afghanistan. "In the long run, through Afghanistan, we will gradually connect the CPEC with the China-Central and Western Asia Economic Corridor," Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi told reporters after China-Afghanistan-Pakistan foreign ministers' meeting in Beijing. As important neighbor of China and Pakistan, Afghanistan has an urgent desire to develop its economy and improve people's livelihood, and it is willing to integrate itself into the process of regional interconnection, said Wang.

China to bid for Malaysia railway project -- A Chinese consortium led by China Railway Corp will participate in bidding for a high-speed railroad linking Singapore and Malaysia in 2018, marking another step in China's ambitious strategy to export its high-speed railway technologies to Southeast Asia. The media office of the Beijing-headquartered China Railway Rolling Stock Co confirmed this move but declined to give any specific details as the matter is still in progress. The consortium, consisting of eight companies including CRRC, China Railway Construction Corporation Ltd, China Railway Signal and Communication Co and Export-Import Bank of China, covers the design, construction, telecommunication, financing, operating and maintenance sectors for the high-speed rail network.

Chinese consortium constructs Bangladesh's first eco-friendly power plant -- A Chinese consortium has been constructing Bangladesh's first eco-friendly power plant with ultra modern clean coal technology at Payra in Patuakhali district, some 204 km south of capital Dhaka, near a maritime port. In March last year, Bangladesh signed an engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contract with the consortium of two Chinese firms for the installation of some 1.56 billion U.S. dollars coal-fired power plant. The consortium includes China Energy Engineering Group Northeast No. 1 Electric Power Construction Co., Ltd. (NPEC) and China National Energy Engineering & Construction Co., Ltd. (CECC).

Ethiopia to commission Chinese-built pharmaceutical industrial park in 2018 -- Ethiopia will commission Chinese-built Kilinto industrial park which will host pharmaceutical companies in March 2018, an Ethiopian official said on Dec. 24. Getahun Agenew, Project Manager at Kilinto industrial park, said 75 percent of the project had been completed. The industrial park lying on 270 hectares of land is being constructed by China Tiesiju Civil Engineering Group Co., Ltd (CTCEGCL) at a cost of 204 million U.S. dollars. The World Bank is wholly financing the construction of the industrial park through a loan scheme. Kilinto industrial park, when completed, will encompass 18 kms of asphalt roads, provision of basic social services, green spaces, warehouses, business centers and car parking space.

China carries out joint archaeology projects in 12 countries -- China has carried out 15 joint archaeology projects in 12 countries, including Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Iran, India and Myanmar, said Xie Bing, an official with the State Administration of Cultural Heritage (SACH), on December 22. According to Xie, the country has helped six countries with historical protection and restoration. In 2018, the SACH will complete the restoration of the Ta Keo Temple in Cambodia and start assistance projects in Pakistan and Sri Lanka.

Major railway on trial run in SW China -- -- A trial run of a railway connecting two major cities in southwest China, Chongqing and Guiyang, began on December 23. The railway, which traverses China's longest river, Yangtze, and its tributary, Wujiang River, has 209 new bridges and 115 tunnels, according to the project's constructor, China Railway Chengdu Group Co. Ltd. Designed for passenger trains running at a speed of 200 kilometers per hour, the railway will improve traffic between China's southwest and northwestern, eastern, southern areas. It will cut the travel time between Chengdu, capital of Sichuan Province, and Guiyang, capital of Guizhou Province, from current 11 hours to 3.5 hours.

PowerChina Guizhou to build PV plant in Pakistan -- Chinese power engineering company PowerChina Guizhou Engineering Corporation said it signed an engineering, procurement and construction services contract for a 100 megawatt photovoltaic power project with Enertech, a Pakistan-based energy company, in Beijing on December 20.

The project marks the first photovoltaic power facility in Quetta, the fourth-largest city in Pakistan and the provincial capital of Balochistan. It is the first phase of a 7 MW photovoltaic power project in Balochistan. (Source: chinadaily.com.cn)
