PANAMA CITY, Dec. 13 (Xinhua)--Colon Free Trade Zone (Colon FTZ) of Panama would strive to develop the European, American and Latin American markets to seek more investment opportunities, said Manuel Grimaldo, General Manager of Colon FTZ on August 30.
Colon FTZ has contacted with Asian, European and Latin American entrepreneurs, customers and diplomats, and placed the building of a modernized FTZ on the agenda, including the establishment of an e-commerce platform for the merchants in CFTZ, said Grimaldo.
The establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Panama would bring huge business opportunities for Colon FTZ, for instance, Margaret Island Container Port funded and constructed by China's Landbridge Group broke ground in June, he added.
Colon FTZ is one of the major economic pillars of Panama, but has operated in poor conditions in recent years with its trade volume declining for four consecutive years. In January 2017, Colon FTZ started to show signs of trade recovery.
While announcing the establishment of the diplomatic relations between Panama and China on June 12, 2017, Panamanian President Juan Carlos Varela said that China plays a significant role in Panama's economy and is the largest commodity supplier of Colon FTZ.
