GUANGZHOU, Nov. 29 (Xinhua) – Zhuhai, a coastal city located in south China’s Guangdong Province, will continue to join hands with Hong Kong, Macao, Taiwan and other surrounding areas to become a strategic pillar of maritime cooperation under the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI), said Guo Yuanqiang, chief of CPC Zhuhai Committee on the opening ceremony for the “The 21st Century Maritime Silk Road” Forum on International Communication and Chinese (Guangdong) Companies Going Global Wednesday.
According to Guo, Zhuhai has made great achievements in advancing the BRI and on the basis of these achievements, it will push forward cooperation with related countries and emerging market nations by giving full play to such key cooperation-boosting platforms as Hengqin Free Trade Zone and China-Latin America and the Caribbean International Exposition and encouraging domestic companies to go global and foreign companies to come in at the same time.
Zhuhai will step up building itself into a service base for highly efficient resource exchanges with related countries, a strategic hub for international exchange and cooperation, an economic cooperation center and a vital engine for international communication and cooperation as well, Guo said.
As one of the cradles of ancient maritime silk roads, Zhuhai has served as a communication corridor between Chinese and western cultures and played an important role in communication between Chinese and world civilization.
As Guo introduced, Zhuhai is one of the four earliest special economic zones in China and has maintained close economic and trade relations with countries and regions alongside the 21st Century Maritime Silk Road.
As the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge is to be completed and open to traffic soon, the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area is accelerating construction and the Hengqin Free Trade Zone is put forward at a high level, Zhuhai is set to provide more market, investment and cooperation opportunities for countries and regions along with the 21st Century Maritime Silk Road, Guo added.
