Chinese enterprise signs EPC contract for Turkey Thermal Power Plant -- The consortium of CPI Power Engineering Co. Ltd (CPIPEC) and AVIC-INTL Project Engineering Company (AVIC-INTL) recently signed an EPC contract in Shanghai with Turkey’s EMBA Electricity Production Inc. for Turkey 2×660MW Hunutlu Thermal Power Plant. Located in Yumurtalik, Adana Province, Turkey, close to the Mediterranean, the plant is some 65 kilometers away from the center of Adana and around 17 kilometers away from downtown Yumurtalik. Shanghai Electric Power holds a 20 percent stake in the project as the controlling shareholder. The project is scheduled to commence in 2018 and complete by 2021.

Stecol Corporation wins bid for two downstream lots of Nzoia project in Kenya -- Stecol Corporation East Africa won the bid for Lot 1 (farmland irrigation) and Lot 2 (river flood control upgrade) of Kenya’s Lower Nzoia Irrigation Project on November 3. Located in western Kenya’s Bungoma County, the two lots are owned by the Ministry of Water and Irrigation of Kenya and funded by the World Bank and the German Reconstruction Committee. The construction periods for Lot 1 and Lot 2 are three and two years, respectively, while both lots have a maintenance period of one year.

China's COSCO Shipping to build logistics park in Egypt -- China's TEDA corporation, COSCO shipping company and Suez Canal Economic Zone (SCZone) signed on Nov. 7 an agreement to build a new logistics park at TEDA Cooperation Zone in Egypt's Red Sea city of Ain Sokhna, east of the capital Cairo. The agreement was signed by Executive General Manager of China-Africa TEDA Wei Jianqing, President of COSCO shipping (Europe) GmbH Lin Ji, and head of SCZone Mohab Mamish on the sidelines of the World Youth Forum being Held in Egypt's Sharm el-Sheikh resort city.

Chinese, Nepali officials discuss cross-border railway -- Officials from China's National Railway Administration (NRA) informed Nepali officials that China has given high priority to developing cross-border railway connecting Kathmandu and Chinese border town Kerung. During a meeting between a visiting delegation of NRA and Nepali officials from Ministry of Physical Infrastructure and Transport and the Department of Railway on Nov. 6, the Chinese delegation said the objective of their visit was to start groundwork for the development of the proposed railway.

Lao PM visits construction site of China-Laos railway -- Lao Prime Minister Thongloun Sisoulith has paid an inspection visit to the construction site of China-Laos railway in Lao northern Oudomxay and Luang Prabang provinces. The China-Laos railway commanding department under China Railway Group Limited told Xinhua on November 6 that the prime minister visited some tunnel and bridge construction sites in the northern provinces and listened to brief introduction on construction progress. The Lao prime minister was satisfied with construction process after visits made on November 4 and November 5.

Cote d'Ivoire inaugurates Chinese-built biggest hydropower dam -- Cote d'Ivoire on Nov. 2 inaugurated the Chinese-built Soubre hydroelectric power station, the largest of its kind in the West African country. The 4.5-km-long hydropower dam at Naoua Falls on the Sassandra River, with an installed capacity of 275 megawatts (MW), is expected to increase hydro power in Cote d'Ivoire's energy mix and cement the country's status as a key power producer and supplier in West Africa.

China starts building another hydropower dam for Cote d'Ivoire, upon Soubre dam inauguration -- Foundation stone was laid Nov. 2 for a 112 megawatts (MW) hydroelectric dam on Sassandra River in western Cote d'Ivoire, the same day the country inaugurated its biggest dam Soubre 15 km upstream, built by a Chinese company. The Gribo-Popoli hydropower plant will be built by Sinohydro Corporation Limited, the same company that built the 275 MW Soubre. The Gribo-Popoli project, will take 40 months to complete.

Construction goes smoothly on China-Russia gas pipeline -- Construction of two underwater tunnels on the China-Russia East-Route Natural Gas Pipeline is going smoothly, local government said on Nov. 2. Gas pipelines will be installed in the two tunnels, each 1,139 meters long, connecting Heihe in Heilongjiang Province, and Blagoveshchensk in Russia, the Heihe city government said in a statement. The underwater project passes through the Heilongjiang River along the Sino-Russian border. One of the two tunnels was completed recently, according to the local government.

China's COSCO breaks ground on new container terminal in Abu Dhabi -- COSCO Shipping Ports Co., Ltd. (CSP), the port terminal operator of China Ocean Shipping (Group) Company known as COSCO, has broken ground on a new terminal at Khalifa Port, the flagship deepwater port in Abu Dhabi. COSCO and the port's developer and operator -- Abu Dhabi Ports -- held the ceremony on Nov. 5. Addressing the event, Dr. Sultan Al Jaber, the United Arab Emirates (UAE) Minister of State, said Abu Dhabi Ports has played an important role in expanding trading links between the UAE and China, which is now the UAE's second largest trading partner.
