BEIJING, Oct. 24 (Xinhua) -- The Pulau Muara Besar Bridge in Brunei, undertaken by China Harbour Engineering Co., Ltd. (CHEC) is expected to finish construction and open to traffic by early April 2018, said Dong Yan, CHEC Brunei Managing Director, in a interview with 21st Century Business Herald.
Pulau Muara Besar Bridge is an important bridge linking Brunei-Muara District in western Brunei and Pulau Muara Besar in eastern Brunei. “Actually, the bridge is an auxiliary facility that mainly serve Pulau Muara Besar”, said Dong Yan.
With a total length of 5,915 meters, the project involves the construction of two-way four-lane highways. The cross-sea bridge shall measure about 2.7 kilometers in length and 23.6 meters in width, with the main structure made of steel. With a total contract value of 260 million Singapore dollars, the bridge will be Brunei’s first cross-sea bridge.
The signing and foundation ceremony of the project took place on May 6, 2015. Apart from the design and construction of a 2.7-kilometer four-lane cross-sea bridge and a 3-kilometer four-lane highway around the island, the project also involves the development of power, communication and water pipeline networks.
