SEOUL, April 10 (Xinhua) -- LG Electronics saw its first-quarter operating profit almost double compared with a year earlier, a regulatory filing showed Friday.
Operating profit reached 921.5 billion won (810 million U.S. dollars) in the January-March quarter, up 82.4 percent from the same period of last year.
The first-quarter revenue was 14.66 trillion won, up 9.7 percent from a year earlier.
The figures were higher than any first-quarter earnings recorded by the company, which posted an operating loss in the previous quarter.
The first-quarter earnings beat market expectations of 14.4 trillion won in revenue and 587 billion won in profit.
Solid demand for premium TVs and home appliances, manufactured by LG, led the better-than-expected earnings result.
The company's loss in smartphone business was estimated to fall in the quarter. The mobile phone unit logged an operating loss of 467 billion won in the fourth quarter of last year.
Net income and details on each business division is scheduled to be announced later this month.
