BEIJING, April 7 (Xinhua) -- Amazon China announced today to upgrade its cross-border commerce services by launching a Japan site, hoping to gain ground in a market dominated by domestic players like Alibaba and JD.com.
The company, one of the very few overseas dot-com firms still working in China, is to offer 850,000 products of 13,000 brands chosen from Amazon Japan to improve its product portfolio. It features Chinese language, local payment services and delivery network of just two or three working days. With the Prime service, free shipping can be expected very soon.
It is the third global site added to Amazon China’s network after the US and the UK sites.
Sales contributed by Chinese buyers rose by five times in 2016 on Amazon Japan compared with a year ago, which made the firm decide to extend services in China, said Jasper Cheung, Amazon Japan’s president. (Shanghai Daily)
