LAGOS, June 14 (Xinhua) -- A stakeholders forum to adopt implementable innovations to achieving affordable, modern and sustainable transportation in Nigeria kicked off in Abuja, the nation's capital city on Wednesday.
With the theme "Transforming the Road Transport and Mass Transit Operations and Management in Nigeria, through innovations and Public Private Partnership", the forum was aimed at providing a platform for the private sectors to develop and present viable innovations to improve road transportation in the country.
Sabiu Zakari, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Transportation said the innovations would also be deployed in various states of the Federation.
Zakari said transportation is critical to national development and in recognition of this fact the present administration in a bid to diversify the economy is making concerted efforts to revamp the sector.
According to him, this would make the sector economically viable, efficient and effective in terms of service delivery.
The road transport sector accounts for 90 percent in terms of movement of goods and services in the country and requires due attention, he added. Enditem
