WINDHOEK, May 23 (Xinhua) -- Namibia was selected as one of the countries for the first phase of the global QQ project, launched by leading Chinese internet firm Tencent Holdings.
Tencent on Monday announced the launch of the QQ X Project. The QQ social media application is a global player, being the third largest Social Media Application after Facebook and WhatsApp messenger.
Namibia's Ambassador to China Elia Kaiyamo said in a statement at the launch that Namibia is honoured to have been selected for this exceptional project and will be available to work at all times in a win-win partnership with Tencent Company.
"This important project will make an important contribution to the knowledge and education of the youth throughout the world," he said.
According to Kaiyamo, Namibia is home to the only space tracking station of China in Africa, playing a vital role in China's space programs.
"Namibia is selected for this project based on its beautiful scenery, exceptional wildlife, cultural heritage but more importantly, for the splendid African night sky in the Namib desert," he added.
Meanwhile, he said that Namibia hopes to deepen the cooperation in various fields particularly Information and Communication Technology with China.
"By virtue of participating in QQ X Project, Namibia welcome more Chinese tourists to travel in Namibia to fully experience amazing natural scenery and unique local culture," he added. Enditem
