DHAKA, May 6 (Xinhua) -- An 80-km marine drive built along the Bay of Bengal in southeastern Bangladesh opened to traffic on Saturday.
The Bangladesh army, under the supervision of the country's Roads and Highways Department, constructed the marine drive.
Speaking to the press, Project Inspector Lieutenant Colonel KM Mehedi Hasan said that the Cox Bazaar-Tekhnaf Marine Drive is one of the longest of its kind in the world which is 80 km in length.
He hoped that Cox's Bazaar will be able to attract more local and foreign tourists with this road.
The marine drive has already been making contribution to a tourist-friendly ambiance along with economic growth in the sea beach towns of Cox's Bazar district where hotels, cottages and resorts are being constructed.
With miles of golden sands, surfing waves, rare conch shells, towering cliffs, pleasant seafood, tribes, colorful pagodas and temples, the place is a favorite for tourists.
Each year, tens of thousands of visitors flock to see high rise waves of Bay of Bengal by standing on the sands of Cox's Bazaar, which is an unbroken 125 km sandy sea beach with a gentle slope. Enditem
