Hong Kong-based private equity fund Gaw Capital Partners and a number of individual investors including Pony Ma Huateng, founder of Chinese Internet giant Tencent Holdings, are reportedly planning to buy the Four Seasons Hotel in Bora Bora, an island in Leeward gropup of the Society Islands of French Polynesia.
Other billionaire investors include Neil Shen, founding and managing partner of venture capital firm Sequoia Capital China, Askar Alshinbayev, managing partner of private equity firm Meridian Capital as well as Tencent President Martin Lau and Chief Strategy Offer James Mitchell, media reports said last week.
The consortium is said to seek a loan of up to 100 million euros (105.7 million U.S. dollar) to buy the resort from Thierry Barbion.
It is not the first time for Gaw Capital to acquire hotel assets. In 2015, it led an investor group to purchase the InterContinental in Hong Kong.
