BEIJING, Aug.21 (Xinhua) -- The Chinese embassy in Thailand announced on August 19 that the construction of the Sino-Thai railway project is likely to start in October this year.
According to the announcement, the first stage of the railway project, starting from Bankok to Nakhon Ratchasima with total length of 253 kilometers, has made considerable progress, and the preparatory works for the second stage (from Nakhon Ratchasima to Nong Khai) would also start soon.
This project is expected to be Thailand’s first standard high-speed railway, with estimated highest speed of about 250 kilometers per hour. The project will enhance Thailand’s status as a transport hub in Indochina Peninsula, revitalizing Thailand’s economic development. (Edited by Yang Yifan, yangyifan@xinhua.org)
