TRIPOLI, Jan. 3 (Xinhua) -- Libya's production of oil has increased to 685,000 barrels per day, the National Oil Corporation (NOC) said in a statement on Tuesday.
The rise was due to reopening of major oil pipelines from Al-Sharara and Al-Feel fields in western Libya after closure for two weeks, according to the statement.
"The oil production will be resumed gradually from Al-Sharara field, which produces 330,000 barrels per day. However, there is no announcement of resumed production from Al-Feel field which produces 90,000 barrels per day," it said.
The corporation said it hopes to increase oil production to about 900,000 barrels per day by March.
Following the uprising of 2011 that toppled former leader Muammar Gaddafi, oil production in Libya has decreased from 1.6 million barrels per day to nearly 250,000 barrels.
The oil sector, Libya's main source of income, has been suffering due to closing the oil ports by militias for nearly three years. Enditem
