ATHENS, Sept. 4 (Xinhua) -- Main opposition New Democracy leader Kyriakos Mitsotakis on Thursday met with the Chinese ambassador to Greece Zou Xiaoli, as part of the ND president's preparation for the 82nd Thessaloniki International Fair (TIF) in early September, where China will be the honored country.
According to sources, the meeting reaffirmed both sides' mutual interest in further reinforcing strategic cooperation between Greece and China, which was first inaugurated under an ND government.
They also exchanged views on the prospects for bilateral cooperation, with emphasis on energy, shipping, tourism, culture and foods. Among others, they hailed the imminent launch of a direct flight between Athens and Beijing as a significant development.
Referring to the Chinese ambassador's recent visit to the northeast Greek town of Soufli, which in the past was noted for the production of silk, they discussed the prospects of launching mutually beneficial cooperation between the two countries in the silk industry.
Ambassador Zou briefed Mitsotakis on the course of major Chinese investments in Greece and China's presence at TIF, while they also held talks on the latest developments in the Korean peninsula.(Edited by Zhang Yuan, source: Athens News Agency)
