BEIJING, June 6 (Xinhua) -- China welcomes Japan to cooperate more under the framework of the China-proposed Belt and Road Initiative, a Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson said Tuesday.
Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe said Monday that Japan was ready to cooperate with China's Belt and Road Initiative under certain conditions.
Speaking at a forum in Tokyo on Asia's future, Abe said those conditions would include "harmony with a free and fair Trans-Pacific economic zone." ( "We have noticed the relevant remarks," spokesperson Hua Chunying said,noting the Belt and Road Initiative could be a new platform for cooperation and development between China and Japan.
"In the process of the Belt and Road construction, China is committed to promoting a fair, reasonable and transparent international economic, trade and investment system," Hua said, noting that China and many countries had reached agreements to carry cooperation in various fields. "The Belt and Road Initiative, which is an important international public good, as well as an open and inclusive development platform, is beneficial to all countries worldwide, including Japan."
He added that he hoped that the Japanese side could put their will to improve bilateral ties into action.
