TBILISI, May 24 (Xinhua) -- Georgian and Turkish leaders on Wednesday vowed to deepen their economic cooperation in various fields.
At the press conference after the meeting with visiting Turkish Prime Minister Binali Yildirim in Tbilisi, Georgian Prime Minister Giorgi Kvirikashvili said Yildirim's visit "is a clear evidence of the well-defined will of the two countries' political leaders and of the spirit with which the bilateral relations are developing."
Kvirikashvili said that despite intensive economic exchanges between the two countries, "untapped potential" needs to be fully realized. For that purpose, the two sides signed the declaration on the establishment of the Joint Economic and Trade Commission, "which is another step ahead in this respect," he said.
The Georgian prime minister also stressed the importance of "widening the free trade agreement as much as possible," enabling Georgian producers to increase export volumes to Turkey.
In his remarks, Yildirim pledged to work to ensure trade balance between Georgia and Turkey.
The two leaders also placed on close cooperation on the implementation of the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway project scheduled to be inaugurated in the foreseeable future.
Yildirim began a two-day official visit to Georgia to mark the 25th anniversary of establishment of diplomatic relations between Georgia and Turkey.
