COPENHAGEN, April 18 (Xinhua) -- Danish Prime Minister Lars Loekke Rasmussen underlined on Tuesday that Denmark will get closer relations with Austria in the EU after the Brexit.
Addressing a joint press conference after meeting with visiting Austrian Chancellor Christian Kern, Rasmussen said Denmark and Austria look alike in several EU issues, such as the need to limit migration and ensure indexing of family allowance.
"We have had good discussions with a like-minded nation and shared many views," said Rasmussen.
He said small and medium countries should get together and play a greater role in the EU when Britain leaves the bloc.
The two leaders also talked about the issue of contribution to EU as the two countries, together with Britain, are among just 10 net-contributors to the EU budget.
This means that tax payers in Denmark, Austria and the UK are helping to pay EU transfers to countries in Eastern and Southern Europe.
If action is not taken, the bill may increase dramatically when Britain steps out and stops its payment. Enditem
