VIENNA, Jan. 16 (Xinhua) -- Iran has complied with its nuclear deal reached with six powers by removing excess centrifuges and infrastructure from an underground uranium enrichment plant, the United Nations atomic agency said in a statement on Monday.

The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) verified on Jan. 15 that Iran has taken these actions related to Fordow Fuel Enrichment Plant and that Iran has carried out these steps within the timeframe stipulated under the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action(JCPOA), read a statement on IAEA's website.

The JCPOA required Iran to remove all excess centrifuges and infrastructure from the Fordow plant and to store them at the Natanz Fuel Enrichment Plant, which will be placed under continuous supervision by the IAEA.

Fordow is a key uranium enrichment plant of Iran. It is located about 30 km northeast of the Iranian city of Qom.

According to the Iranian nuclear deal, signed in July 2015, Iran agreed to scale back its nuclear plan, including removing infrastructure of the Fordow plant to address the concern of western states,

IAEA monitors the Iranian nuclear deal's implementation in the whole process.

Iran was suspected by the western states to have the ambition to develop nuclear weapon while Tehran denies the allegation.
