WINDHOEK, Oct. 11 (Xinhua) -- Former Chinese ambassador to Namibia Ji Peiding said China will donate 4, 000 tons of rice valued at 60 million Namibia dollars (4 million U.S. dollars) to the southern African country.
Ji, also a member of the Foreign Policy Advisory Group of China's Ministry of Foreign Affairs, is on a visit to Namibia. He made the remarks when he met with Namibian President Hage Geingob at State House in Windhoek Tuesday.
He said China will work with Namibia on solving food shortages and power problems.
The meeting was part of following up on some of the goals set at the 6th Forum on China-Africa Cooperation summit held in South Africa in December last year.
Ji said China is ready to help Namibia with capital projects. "We suggest that Namibia put these projects in order of relative importance and urgency and also provide us with detailed information so that we can work together to select and decide on the first batch of projects," he said.
Namibia is currently facing a severe drought that has been going on for the past three years. Geingob has already declared a state of emergency and asked for help from the international community. Enditem
