Chinese enterprise signs 11-year project extension agreement for Myanmar’s century-old oil fields -- China ZhenHua Oil Company Limited, subsidiary of China North Industries Corporation (NORINCO), signed an 11-year agreement for oilfield project extension with Myanmar Oil and Gas Enterprise in Naypyidaw on September 15 following the expiry of contract signed in 2011. ZhenHua completely took over Geopetrol, France in 2011, thereby acquiring a 40 percent stake in the Yenangyaung and Chauk oilfields’ EOR contract for oil exploration, development and production. The annual output of the two oilfields soared from 110,000 tonnes in 2011 to 175,000 tonnes in 2014.

Expansion of largest China-Tajikistan cooperation project on cards -- China International Economic Cooperation and Investment Inc., working under the aegis of China Council for the Promotion of International Trade, and Shanghai Haicheng Resources (Group) Co., Ltd. have recently entered into a strategic cooperation agreement to expand “China-Tajikistan Industrial Park” – China’s first industrial park in Tajikistan and the largest China-Tajikistan cooperation project – into “Tajikistan North Nonferrous Metal Industrial Park”, thereby broadening and deepening China-Tajikistan mining cooperation.

Bangladesh-China joint venture company to construct academic building in Dhaka -- A Bangladesh-China Joint Venture (JV) company will construct a leading private university's academic building in Dhaka.

An agreement was signed on September 25 between the BRAC University and the commercial alliance of China's Beijing Urban Construction Group (BUCG) and Bangladesh's Associated Builders Corporation Ltd. (ABC).

Chinese-built biggest dam in Cambodia to start operation in November -- The 400-megawatt Lower Sesan II Hydropower Plant, which is Cambodia's biggest hydropower dam so far, will start operation in November after almost four years of construction. According to a report by Cambodian Minister of Mines and Energy Suy Sem, the plant has eight turbines and each turbine has installed capacity of 50 megawatts. The first turbine will be put into operation in November, and all of the 8 turbines will be fully operational in October.

Chinese enterprise buys into Eastern Siberia's largest oil & gas field project, Beijing, Tianjin, Hebei expected to access Russian gas -- Beijing Gas, in June 2017, had acquired a 20 percent stake in Verkhnechonskneftegaz (a Rosneft subsidiary), for 1.1 billion U.S. dollars. Verkhnechonsk field, owned by Verkhnechonskneftegaz, now boasts steady output of 8 million tonnes annually. Verkhnechonsk field has huge oil & gas reserves with recoverable oil reserves pegged at approximately 200 million tonnes, and gas reserves at 172.2 billion cubic meters.

New air route linking Wuhan, Manila opens -- A new direct air route linking Wuhan, capital of central China's Hubei Province, with Manila, capital of the Philippines, will open in November, China Southern Airlines announced on September 26. It is the first regular direct flight between the two cities, it added.

China colliery, UN set up gas treatment center -- A Chinese coal mine and the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE) on September 24 jointly launched a methane gas treatment center with the unveiling ceremony held at the 2017 China International Mining Congress in the northern Chinese city of Tianjin. Jin Zhixin, president of the Chinese partner Shanxi Coking Coal Group Co., said in the next three to four years, it will build 12 gas-fired power plants with a combined generating capacity of 71.4 MW.

Sinohydro Bureau 15 Gouina Hydropower Plant Project starts principal work -- Surface cleaning on the left-bank dam in Gouina Hydropower Plant Project started on September 18, Mali Time, initiating a sizeable construction phase. Undertaken by PowerChina Sinohydro Corporation Engineering Bureau 15, the plant will have a maximum height of 19 meters, and length of 1,230 meters, with the total installed capacity at 3×49MW. It is funded by the Organization pour la Mise en Valeur du Fleuve Sénégal (OMVS, Senegal River Basin Development Authority), with PowerChina as the EPC contractor.

China Southern Airlines begins direct flights to Colombo -- China Southern Airlines has begun direct flights to Sri Lanka's capital Colombo with its maiden flight arriving at the Bandaranaike International Airport in the evening of September 26, local media reports said on September 27. The airline will operate three flights a week between Guangzhou and Colombo en route the Maldives.
