NANJING, Sept. 18 (Xinhua) -- Reducing the dependency on traditional fuel such as coal and petroleum is vital to green development, said Li Junfeng, directing member of the Renewable Committee of the China Energy Research Society, in an interview with China Economic Information Service on September 16 in Yangzhong, East China’s Jiangsu Province.
Li was interviewed on the sidelines of the International Green Energy Development Conference, which took place from September 15 to 16. The conference, themed “Green Energy Development in China and Yangzhong’s Practices”, showcased the latest technologies and products of new energy, presented achievements of China’s high-proportion new energy demonstration cities and discussed innovative development of green energy.
Li pointed out that China has entered the era of green development but still faces a huge challenge, that is, whether people are willing to reduce or even completely give up the use of traditional fuel. “Real development transformation and green life style won’t be possible without the transformation of the energy structure.”
China’s green energy industry has made significant contributions to the global energy structure transformation. China has become the world’s largest exporter of green energy, with its photovoltaic (PV) industry taking the leading position in the world, according to Li.
Yangzhong is one of the four demonstration cities approved by the National Energy Administration for high proportion of new energy application. Li commented that Yangzhong’s green energy development concept is leading in China and its practices in green energy development and application should be a demonstration for the rest of the country.
Li noted that besides the local green energy production, Yangzhong also buys green energy from other provinces and autonomous regions such as Inner Mongolia, Gansu and Qinghai. Li pointed out that green energy development and application not only improve environment but also contribute to local employment and economic development.
