China's power consumption continues to expand in May -- China's electricity consumption, an important indicator of economic activity, continued expansion in May as the country's economy stabilized. Power use reached 496.8 billion kilowatt-hours in May, up 5.1 percent year on year. In the first five months, power consumption rose 6.4 percent to 2.43 trillion kilowatt-hours, said the National Energy Administration (NEA).

China's service sector continues rapid expansion in May -- China's service sector continued to expand in May, lending steam to the country's stable economic growth and employment. The Index of Services Production increased by 8.1 percent year on year in May, growing at the same speed as last month, according to the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS). The transportation, storage, postal services, information transmission, software and information technology service sectors maintained high growth rates.

China's fixed-asset investment up 8.6 pct in Jan-May -- China's fixed-asset investment (FAI) moderated in the first five months as the economy showed more signs of firming up. FAI grew 8.6 percent in the first five months year-on-year, down 0.3 percentage points from that during January-April, according to the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS).

China's property development investment growth slows -- Growth of China's property development investment decelerated in the first five months of the year as the market showed signs of cooling down. Investment in property development expanded 8.8 percent year on year during the January-May period, down from 9.3 percent in the first four months, according to data from the National Bureau of Statistics.

Chinese investors' confidence for securities market narrows in drop -- Chinese investors' confidence for the securities market continued to fall in May, but the drop narrowed, a survey showed on June 13. The confidence index stood at 48.9 in May, down three percent month on month, compared with an 8-percent drop in April, according to China Securities Investor Protection Fund Corp. An index reading over 50 means optimism for the stock markets.

China's civil aviation growth hits two-year high in May -- China's civil aviation sector expanded at the fastest monthly rate in two years in May. The total turnover of the sector grew 16.2 percent year on year to reach 8.9 billion tonne-km last month, accelerating from 12 percent in April, the Civil Aviation Administration of China said in a statement.

China's new energy vehicle sales surge in May -- Both production and sales of new energy vehicles (NEVs) in China soared in May amid tepid growth of the overall auto market, industry data showed. A total of 45,000 NEVs were sold in May, up 28.4 percent year on year, while 51,000 NEVs were produced, up 38.2 percent year on year, data from the China Association of Automobile Manufacturers (CAAM) showed. Total auto sales remained stable, with 2.1 million vehicles sold in May, up 0.6 percent compared with that in April. The number declined 0.1 percent year on year.

China approves projects worth over 7 bln USD in May: economic planner -- China's top economic planner said on June 15 that it had approved eight fixed-asset investment (FAI) projects with total investment reaching 51.8 billion yuan (about 7.6 billion U.S. dollars) in May. The projects were mainly in the areas of energy, water conservation and industrial production, according to Meng Wei, spokesperson with the National Development and Reform Commission.

Chinese equity fund invests 4.4 bln USD in Africa -- China-Africa Development (CAD) Fund, an equity investment fund managed by China Development Bank, has invested in 90 projects in Africa involving 4.4 billion U.S. dollars, a senior fund manager said on June 14. As of the end of May, investments had been made in 36 African countries in the areas of industrialization and infrastructure development, among others, CAD Fund Vice President Wang Yong said at a meeting held in the northeastern China city of Harbin.
