Seven companies from Ganyu District, Lianyungang City in east China's Jiangsu Province recently showcased nori seaweed, ready-to-eat seaweed snacks and other products at SIAL Paris 2026. Ganyu exhibitors secured original equipment manufacturing (OEM) orders worth more than 10 million U.S. dollars at the event.

During the five-day event, Ganyu exhibitors made more than 500 contacts with prospective customers and held one-on-one talks with over 200 clients. They reached preliminary cooperation intentions with nearly 50 clients and identified more than 10 for closer cooperation. Preliminary estimates suggest Ganyu's direct and indirect seaweed exports could increase by more than 20 million U.S. dollars in 2027.

Three participating companies received sample requests and sales inquiries from overseas customers on their return journey, according to Jiang Kun, head of Lianyungang Haipu Food Co., Ltd.

Wan Lei, vice president and secretary-general of the Ganyu District Seaweed Association, said the association connected with leading European food retailers, established cooperation channels for seaweed in the European Union and secured a local trading partner in France to support cross-border e-commerce operations.

Ganyu is a major Chinese production area for nori seaweed, accounting for about 40 percent of the country's annual dried nori output. Its industry chain covers seedling cultivation, farming, primary and further processing, trading and exports. Its products reach more than 50 countries and regions.
