The China Mobile 6G Application Innovation Laboratory, established in 2026 under the leadership of China Mobile Communications Group Co., Ltd., has opened at the corporation's International Information Port in Changping, a district in Beijing.
The laboratory, a sub-laboratory of Beijing's key 6G laboratory, brings together multiple leading enterprises, universities, research institutes and user service providers. It will serve as a place where all these entities can collaborate to advance the innovation and application of 6G technologies in various industrial scenarios, and facilitate efforts to translate 6G technologies from testing and verification to large-scale industrial application.
6G represents an important evolutionary direction for information and communications technologies, serving as a pivotal foundation for fostering new-quality productive forces, advancing the Digital China initiative and building China into an internet powerhouse. Making use of the capital's geographical advantages and industrial resources, the laboratory will explore a 6G technology application path that features "upgradable technologies, sustainable business forms and replicable development approaches". It aims to facilitate the entire process spanning technology R&D, scenario verification, benchmark development and large-scale promotion.
The laboratory focuses on crucial scenarios, including embodied intelligent robots, intelligent connected vehicles, three-dimensional transportation, industrial internet, smart healthcare, commercial retail and smart cultural tourism. It will build a full-chain innovation ecosystem covering core technologies, software and hardware products, innovation platforms and specific industrial scenarios.
The laboratory has gathered more than 10 core partners across the industrial chain, as well as some universities, forming an innovation framework that features guidance by the government, leadership by telecom carriers, and coordination among enterprises, universities, research institutes and user service providers, as it seeks to accelerate the process of translating more 6G application scenarios from technological concept to reality.
