China's digital industry revenue up 13.6 pct in H1

Abstract : China's digital industry maintained rapid momentum in the first half of 2026, generating 20.71 trillion yuan in revenue, up 13.6 percent from the same time last year.

BEIJING, Aug. 26 (Xinhua Silk Road) -- China's digital industry maintained rapid momentum in the first half of 2026, generating 20.71 trillion yuan in revenue, up 13.6 percent from the same time last year.

The growth rate was 4.1 percentage points faster than that in the same period last year and 0.7 percentage points higher than that in the first quarter, China Securities Journal quoted data from the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology as saying on Wednesday.

Driven by growing domestic demand for artificial intelligence (AI) and robust export growth, China's digital industry saw continuous improvement in profitability. The industry recorded total profits of 1.79 trillion yuan in the first half of 2026, up 19.3 percent year on year. The growth rate accelerated by 10.3 percentage points from the same period last year.

China's digital industry has made faster breakthroughs in core technologies, and emerging fields and tracks have gained enhanced momentum, providing solid support for stabilizing economic growth, fostering new quality productive forces and empowering digital and intelligent transformation of industries across the board.

By the end of June, China had 5.102 million 5G base stations, and commercial deployment and applications of 5G-Advanced (5G-A) networks have accelerated. Pilot deployment of 10-gigabit optical networks has also been carried out in residential communities, factories and industrial parks.

Meanwhile, the country's computing infrastructure system has been rapidly improved. China's intelligent computing capacity reached 2,185 EFLOPS by the end of June, up 177 percent year on year. The overall utilization rate of computing facilities nationwide stood at 71.4 percent, while 52 intelligent computing facilities with more than 10,000 accelerator cards had been built.

In the first half of the year, the value-added output of the electronics industry rose 14.8 percent year on year, accelerating by 1.2 percentage points from the first quarter and outpacing overall industrial growth by 9.4 percentage points. Electronic devices, electronic components and specialized materials, as well as smart consumer devices, registered faster growth.

In the digital services industry, the information and communications industry maintained stable performance in the first half. The total volume of telecommunications services increased by 8.3 percent year on year, with the growth rate 0.6 percentage points higher than that recorded in the same period last year.

Revenue in the software and information technology services sector rose 9.5 percent year on year, of which the software products saw a 6.9-percent year-on-year rise in revenue, and information technology service revenue grew by 10.4 percent.

Business revenue of internet companies above designated size rose 10.1 percent year on year, with the growth rate accelerating by 7 percentage points from a year earlier, while their total profits increased by 16.6 percent. (Edited by Li Xueqing with Xinhua Silk Road, lixueqing@xinhua.org)
