SYDNEY, April 27 (Xinhua) -- A Chinese medical team that has been assisting the Federated States of Micronesia (FSM) recently traveled to the country's Chuuk State to support local post-disaster medical efforts following a devastating typhoon.

During a six-day mission, the team treated more than 500 patients, helping to ease pressure on the local healthcare system.

Earlier this month, Typhoon Sinlaku struck Chuuk, triggering secondary disasters including flooding and landslides. The disaster caused extensive damage to infrastructure and severely disrupted public health services.

The Chinese Embassy in the FSM responded promptly to a request for assistance from the FSM government and coordinated the deployment of medical resources.

On April 19, the Chinese medical team departed for Chuuk, which is located near the equator with high temperatures and humidity. In the aftermath of the disaster, shortages of supplies and disrupted communications further complicated relief efforts.

Despite these challenges, the Chinese medical team quickly set up temporary clinics, conducted assessments, and provided treatment for injuries and illnesses, contributing to an efficient post-disaster response.

Given the heightened risk of infectious diseases after natural disasters, the team also conducted public outreach to promote health awareness and epidemic prevention.

In addition, traditional Chinese medicine therapies, including acupuncture, were well received by local residents.

The current medical team was dispatched by northeast China's Liaoning Province and is led by Jinzhou Medical University.
