Chinese medical team provides free medical services, donates supplies on Inhaca Island in Mozambique

February 03, 2026

Abstract : Chinese doctors provided free consultations and donated medical supplies on Inhaca Island in Maputo, the Mozambican capital, over the weekend.

MAPUTO, Feb. 2 (Xinhua) -- Chinese doctors provided free consultations and donated medical supplies on Inhaca Island in Maputo, the Mozambican capital, over the weekend.

The activity by the 26th Chinese medical team to Mozambique, in collaboration with China Road and Bridge Corporation, focused on the diagnosis and treatment of common conditions like wounds, eye diseases, hypertension, diabetes and various types of pain, benefiting about 240 patients.

Domingos Silveira, administrator of Inhaca Island, said at the event that local medical institutions have long focused mainly on preventive services, and patients with more complex conditions are often referred to medical facilities in the city. In recent years, population growth and increased tourism have placed higher demands on local healthcare services, making the free medical consultations, which took place on Saturday and Sunday, particularly timely and necessary.

Chen Jialei, head of the 26th Chinese medical team, said the medical services provided were better suited to grassroots needs, helping to identify health problems at an early stage, alleviate symptoms and provide for better follow-up treatment.

During the consultations, the medical team also provided health education on the prevention of cholera and malaria in light of recent flooding, and donated medical equipment and medicines to local primary healthcare institutions.

Chen said that the free medical services are part of the featured events of the 2026 China-Africa Year of People-to-People Exchanges.

"Through sustained and practical medical cooperation, we hope to support Mozambique in strengthening primary healthcare services and contribute to building a global community of health for all," he said.
