BEIJING, Jan. 5 (Xinhua) -- State Grid Shenyang Electric Power Supply Company has rolled out an AI-driven unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) system to automate power grid inspections, significantly enhancing operational efficiency.
The power grid company has introduced three intelligent drone nests, enabling UAVs to autonomously patrol power lines within a 3-kilometer radius. Upon completing their missions, the drones return for automatic recharging, ensuring continuous operation and tripling daily inspection coverage.
The integrated AI recognition system can analyze daytime imagery to identify defects and process nighttime thermal footage to detect risks, such as construction vehicles near cables, issuing real-time alerts to prevent damage.
Since its deployment, areas under this UAV patrol have reported no power outages caused by construction activities, said a staff with the power grid company. (Edited by Liu Yilu)
